Free to Breathe launches Flip Out social awareness and fundraising campaign during Lung Cancer Awareness Month

MADISON, WI — Flip Out is a social awareness and fundraising campaign brought to you by Free To Breathe, a partnership for lung cancer survival. The initiative will launch at the Free to Breathe Brooklyn 5K Run/Walk on October 30, 2016 and will run through November for Lung Cancer Awareness Month. A how-to video, media kit, and campaign details are available at

Lung cancer claims more lives each year than breast, colon and prostate cancer combined. Yet these three cancers receive an average of 5.8 times more research funding per life lost than lung cancer.1 “Research means better treatment options and better treatment outcomes. That’s why for every $100 raised by Free To Breathe, one hour of vital research is conducted,” said Free to Breathe President, Joan Schiller.

The objective of this campaign is to grab the public’s attention and focus it on lung cancer. “In doing so, we aim to drive more awareness and help create more funding for this underserved group of patients,” said Schiller. Through social media promotion and the official campaign hashtag #fliptobreathe, the effort will ask viewers to literally flip things over—tables, chairs, anything—and to do so for a worthy cause. Initial promotional efforts will be targeted at the lung cancer community, but the campaign ultimately seeks to expand its audience to the general public.
