Staying Connected: An Alumni Shares Her New Summit Role

Two years ago, I had the honor of being selected to attend Free to Breathe's 4th Annual Lung Cancer Advocacy Summit. By that time, I had been leading our local National Free to Breathe Walk for several years, as co-captain of Team Haney, with my dear friend Stephanie Haney, who is currently battling stage 4 lung cancer.

I traveled to Nashville eagerly, anticipating that I would glean a few new tips or tricks to help me in our fundraising efforts locally. What I didn't expect was a life-changing experience. I was blown away by the staff, the research presented at the lab and my fellow attendees. I not only left that weekend with clearly defined goals, based on my strengths and interests, but I was also given the tools I needed to succeed at reaching my goals.

This year, I am attending the Summit as an alumni, and working behind the scenes to help drive some of the social media aspects as the "Social Media Ambassador". I am SO excited and honored to be included in the efforts for this event -- not only because of the amazing organization that is behind it but also because it is such a unique opportunity for advocates to get the tools they need to make significant positive change. I hope that my efforts enhance the experience for those attending this year and allow us to reach out to even more advocates who aren't able to join us in Pittsburgh.

I will be sharing and encouraging other attendees to share highlights of their experience on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using #FTBAction. Follow along and join the conversation!
